The Chinese government will award up to 900,000 yuan to individuals who come forward to debunk so-called “two-faced” judicial personnel

The Chinese government will award up to 900,000 yuan to individuals who come forward to debunk so-called “two-faced” judicial personnel, according to a recent local government announcement.

According to “The standard for awarding individuals providing clues relevant to terrorism and violence-related criminal cases,” recently published by the Chinese authorities in Hoten (Hetian) District, residents who report the so-called “two-faced” government officials, members of the Chinese Communist Party, and religious personnel will be awarded between 300,000 and 900,000 Yuan.

Ms. Zumret, a political analyst who has noted how high the reward is, said that this specific measure reflects the anxiety of judicial officials and provides important indications regarding the further development of the political situation in the region.

We tried continuously to reach out to the local police by phone to verify which areas the measure would apply to. A local police guard told us that this standard is also being adopted and released by the Guma (Pixian) County Police Department. The rules state in a section about personnel working in judicial politics that:

“Residents who debunk government personnel who deliberately enabled suspects and criminals to avoid legal penalties, showed leniency in sentencing serious crimes, deliberately released criminals, and granted bail against relevant procedures, will be given 300,000 to 900,000 yuan as a reward.”

Ms. Zumret, a political analyst living in Norway, said that based on what she knows, the current judicial and political situation in the Uyghur Region mirrors the Hundred Flowers Campaign of the Mao era.

According to Ms. Zumret, the Chinese government benefited in certain ways from the Hundred Flowers Campaign, and are now adopting similar measures to create distrust among Uyghurs. She said most of the residents in the region have a sense of what is right and wrong to a certain extent. However, the Chinese government is violating that very basic sentiment in human nature by implementing such policies. This measure in no way demonstrates the strength of the Chinese government — it actually shows its weakness, she added.

Finally, she emphasized that such inhumane and immoral measures will never deliver the expected results, and Uyghurs will learn important lessons from the current situation they are living in.
