Famous Uyghur historian Nebican Tursun gave a lecture in Ankara

In cooperation with the East Turkistan Research Foundation and the Uyghur Academy Foundation, Uyghurs in Ankara listened to a lecture on Uyghur history by well-known Uyghur historian Dr. Nabican Tursun at the Uyghur Research Institute on 30 November 2023.

Ankara University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Erkin Emet, who moderated the event, stated that he has known Dr. Nabican Tursun for more than 40 years since he was a student in Beijing and praised his “General History of Uyghurs” series, which is one of his works in the field of Uyghur history research. Emet then invited Nebican Tursun to the podium to talk about his research and examination processes on historiography.

Nebican Tursun stated that he has been collecting sources by examining foreign archives on Uyghur history for more than twenty years, and that he has been writing the General History of Uyghurs for more than ten years. In his speech, Nebican Tursun focused on the 90th anniversary of the Islamic Republic of East Turkistan, which was established on 12 November 1933, and the reasons for the establishment and collapse of this republic, and explained the historical events before and after the establishment of the Islamic Republic of East Turkistan, the international situation at that time, internal conflicts and the level of political consciousness of Uyghurs.

At the end of the event, journalist Mirkamil Kashgirli, representing Uyghurs in Ankara, presented flowers to Dr Nabican Tursun for his academic work on Uyghurs.

At the end of the speech, the participants thanked Dr Nabican Tursun for his valuable work on Uyghur history. They wished him to contribute more to Uyghur historical research and wished him success in his future work. At the same time, they took a souvenir photo with Dr Nabican Tursun.

This sincere meeting was a meaningful event that strengthened the knowledge sharing and sense of unity within the Uyghur community.
