{"id":1208,"date":"2019-02-09T20:15:40","date_gmt":"2019-02-09T20:15:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/akademiye.org\/en\/?p=1208"},"modified":"2019-02-09T20:15:40","modified_gmt":"2019-02-09T20:15:40","slug":"turkey-calls-on-china-to-close-uighur-detention-camps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/akademiye.org\/en\/?p=1208","title":{"rendered":"Turkey calls on China to close Uighur detention camps"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trtworld.com\/turkey\/turkey-calls-on-china-to-close-uighur-detention-camps-24016\">RTR world\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/akademiye.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/2015050118140381548-Copy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1075 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/akademiye.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/2015050118140381548-Copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"852\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/akademiye.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/2015050118140381548-Copy.jpg 600w, https:\/\/akademiye.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/2015050118140381548-Copy-300x162.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 852px) 100vw, 852px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"article-description \">Turkish Foreign Ministry says it &#8220;expects Chinese authorities to consider Turkish people\u2019s reaction over serious human rights violations.&#8221;<\/h3>\n<p>Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman slammed Chinese authorities\u2019 systematic assimilation policy towards Uighur Turks, saying it is a &#8220;great embarrassment&#8221; in a written statement on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesman Hami Aksoy said, &#8220;Systematic assimilation policy of Chinese authorities towards Uighur Turks is a great embarrassment for humanity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is no longer a secret that more than one million Uighur Turks, who are exposed to arbitrary arrests, are subjected to torture and political brainwashing in concentration centers and prisons,\u201d Aksoy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also call on the international community and UN Secretary-General to take effective steps to end the human tragedy in Xinjiang Region,\u201d Aksoy added.<\/p>\n<p>He also mentioned about Saturday\u2019s death of Uighur poet and musician Abdurehim Heyit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn such an environment, we\u2019ve learned with great sorrow that dignified poet Abdurehim Heyit, who was sentenced to eight years in prison for his composition, died in the second year of his imprisonment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis tragic incident has further strengthened the Turkish public&#8217;s reaction to the serious human rights violations in Xinjiang Region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Foreign Ministry spokesman voiced Turkey&#8217;s expectation from Chinese authorities to consider reactions of Turkish people over serious human rights violations.<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s Xinjiang region is home to around 10 million Uighurs. The Turkic Muslim group, which makes up around 45 percent of Xinjiang\u2019s population, has long accused China\u2019s authorities of cultural, religious and economic discrimination.<\/p>\n<p>China stepped up its restrictions on the region in the past two years, banning men from growing beards and women from wearing veils and introducing what many experts see as the world\u2019s most extensive electronic surveillance program, according to\u00a0<em>The Wall Street Journal<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Up to 1 million people, or about 7 percent of the Muslim population in Xinjiang, have been incarcerated in an expanding network of \u201cpolitical re-education\u201d camps, according to US officials and UN experts.<\/p>\n<p>In its last report released on last September, the Human Rights Watch blamed the Chinese government for a \u201csystematic campaign of human rights violations\u201d against Uighur Muslims in northwestern Xinjiang, an autonomous region in the country.<\/p>\n<p>According to a 117-page report, the Chinese government conducted \u201cmass arbitrary detention, torture and mistreatment\u201d of Uighur Turks in the region.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Islam is one of the five religions officially recognised by the atheist Communist party. The country is home to some 23 million Muslims, but restrictions on them are intensifying.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who is Abdurrehim Heyit ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Abdurrehim Heyit, an Uighur poet and a musician renowned with his songs narrating the Uighur history and culture was born in Kashgar city of Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region, in 1964.<\/p>\n<p>Heyit, who studied at a Fine Arts School in Kashgar, became a world-renowned poet in a short time with his songs that he sang with his string instrument.<\/p>\n<p>Also known by many people in Turkey, the prominent musician performed a concert at Gazi University in Turkey&#8217;s capital Ankara, in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Heyit had been detained in Urumqi, in 2017 without being charged with any crime and sentenced to 8 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>He was in prison when he died.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RTR world\u00a0 Turkish Foreign Ministry says it &#8220;expects Chinese authorities to consider Turkish people\u2019s reaction over serious human rights violations.&#8221; Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman slammed Chinese authorities\u2019 systematic assimilation policy towards Uighur Turks, saying it is a &#8220;great embarrassment&#8221; in a written statement on Sunday.
