Why Study It?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It\u2019s the native language of over\u00a0<strong>20\u00a0million people<\/strong> in East Turkistan (also known by some as Uyghur Autonomous Region) and Central Asia. There are more Uyghurs than Swedish in the Uyghur Autonomous Region (also known by some as East Turkistan), occupies <strong>one sixth of China<\/strong>\u2019s territory, nearly as large as Alaska.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">East Turkistan (also known by some as Uyghur Autonomous Region) was once called the \u201cback of beyond.\u201d\u00a0 Coming from Beijing or Shanghai to Uyghur Region, you enter <strong>a different world<\/strong>. Ringing barren deserts are lush oasis towns, where in summer you can slake your thirst with the pick of delicious melons and grapes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The neighborhoods thrum with a Middle Eastern beat. Mosques and minarets grace the skyline. Street vendors offer spices, nuts, and fruits, jeweled knives, richly embroidered caps, or seasoned kebabs and savory Central Asian pilaf.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Uyghur is the official language of the Uyghur Autonomous Region<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Uyghur is\u00a0<strong>related to Turkish<\/strong>\u00a0and other Central Asian languages like Uzbek and Tatar. The Uyghurs use an improved version of the Arabic script to write their language, like this:\u00a0\u0626\u06c7\u064a\u063a\u06c7\u0631 \u062a\u0649\u0644\u0649\u00a0.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>It\u2019s alphabet, not<\/strong>\u00a0C<strong>hinese characters!<\/strong>\u00a0Uyghur\u00a0<strong>grammar is logical<\/strong>\u00a0and simpler than languages like Russian or Arabic, without all the confusing gender changes.
